Maija Fiebig is known for her highly detailed, atmospheric paintings of abstracted plant forms and patterns. She has recently expanded into new dimensions with sculptural textiles. Working with thread, roving, and yarn, Maija creates unexpected spherical forms—poms—that feel like small planets unto themselves. Her embroidered panels feature the exacting detail of her painting style, but performed in delicate bead, sequin and thread.
Born in Seattle, Washington, Maija has exhibited nationally in Los Angeles, New York, Portland, and Seattle. Her work is institutionally collected (Microsoft & Harborview), and she is the recipient of multiple fellowships and residencies including Vermont Studio Center and is the recipient of the Professional Edge Award. She splits her time making work from her home in the Pacific Northwest, on the road, and sometimes in a small inflatable boat.
