Sometime around 2017, I stopped painting on the canvas and started stitching into it.

My first subjects were bones and snakes, and embroidery quickly became a fascination. One of the main reasons was that I wanted to spend more time outside, and I could more easily travel with fabric and thread.

I got a little raft, took it to the water, and started to embroider while floating. Inspired by the Vodou flags of Haiti and New Orleans that decorate altars to revered spirits, I wondered why we don’t consider plant spirits religiously. I use this format to imagine the spiritual life and afterlife of plants.
